Could you consider more flexible permissions for media galleries?
1. To be able to update the privacy permissions from anywhere. This option seems to disappear once I move it to another folder.
2. To be able to have the album pages public but the media item page restricted by users or user groups on a case-by-case basis. So I can tease the images in the gallery but the user needs to be in the registered or subscriber group to view the full image.
