Forum has been active for over 14 years. In the past Game Insight have promoted on their facebook page as the unofficial fan group.
Today received this email via my host.

We've NEVER had any hacked versions of the game, paid of otherwise on the forum. Any talk of cheating gets that member a ban. The thread they link to shows members reporting cheaters to GI, so that is false info right there.

Does anyone know how to append a data-xf-click="overlay" to a navigation link?

Under the Navigation panel under link I'm currently using "{{ link('forums/create-thread') }}" - but would like it to create the popup, not a page.

I searched and could not find the answer.

Alert count shows as "undefined" for some users

Reported by several users of my community. This one is harder to diagnose. Users have said, after they clear the alerts, this doesn't happen again. So our theory is that there is a bug in the full upgrade process from XF 2.1.x -> 2.3.3, and users that had alerts that weren't checked prior to the upgrade are seeing this bug.

Issues with settings

Okay, I'm pretty confused with settings between Xenforo attachments and XFMG.

In attachments it states "Use this option to globally enable or disable video/audio uploads" and it says to set a max upload size.
There is also a on/off toggle in XFMG for video however there is no file size setting.

After some testing I found that the "global" toggle for video in attachments has no effect in XFMG. Can I assume though that the max file size does control XFMG?

I'm posting another similar question to my unanswered one.

Are videos that are posted to to threads in forums supposed to be transcoded? If no, why not? I'm having issues with users posting videos inetrmixed with images in the forums. As soon as there are 4ish videos the thread slows to a crawl on load.

email error stream_socket_enable_crypto(): SSL operation failed with code 1.

This morning from about 1:am to 10:23 am I have a load of email errors. When I check my postmark activity statistics I can see no emails were processed during this time period. Then I see they all seem to start again, with quite a few all sent at 11:52.

SMTP provider is postmark and no setttings in either postmark or the forum admin have changed re: email settings for years. Upgraded to php 8.3 a couple of weeks ago.

Can anyone tell from the error what this might mean?

Dealing with Off Topic posts or not

Just wondering what people do when a thread gets (too many?) off topic posts.

I find there are generally two important perspectives: from admin POV and from thread starter POV. There’s is of course also the general member experience as well.

Some thread starters consider themselves thread owner, however I always consider the admin is because we are responsible for overall forum quality including both user experience and SEO. Both are necessary to survive and flourish.

Exclude XFMG media results from search

Is it possible to exclude all media items from search/XFES?

If we were to enable XFMG, our search results would end up polluted with millions of attachment file names. With our potential use-case for XMFG we're mirroring most image attachments for the entire forum.

Old apache redirects ---> Nginx redirects

I have moved my forum from apache to nginx. It's working great but there's one thing i d like to fix.
My old rewrite rules are not working now. There are still a lot of extarnal links to my forum and they get 404's now.

What's the best way to solve this?

I didn't like how the avatars on deleted posts were viewing and enlarging the page especially since I've increased my default avatar sizing. By editing the following, you can hide the avatar and reduce the page scrolling size making it easier to manage.
